Help Jane Volunteer & learn Spanish in Costa Rica
Donation protected
Hi friends,
This is Jane. I’m reaching out to share a very important project I am super excited about.
I have applied to a unique 11-day Spanish language immersion and volunteer service program in Costa Rica in July 2022. I will be traveling there on my own and am asking for your support in raising funds for this endeavor.
Let me catch you up about me
I am 15 and a sophomore in high school in Ashland, Oregon. I have a 3.95 GPA, and my education is one of the most important things to me. Since I was five, I have been playing soccer and now play on our high school team. I am also passionate about skiing and surfing. I am part of key club at my high school, where we volunteer to raise money for local causes. Being part of this club has made me realize that volunteering is something that brings me joy and has inspired me to take my service a step further.
I have studied Spanish in the 8th, 9th, and 10th grades and have a 4.0 GPA in the language. I want to be a fluent Spanish speaker. I know this will open me up to many more opportunities throughout my lifetime and allow me to communicate with people from other communities.
Here’s my plan
In this experience, I will work with children and teach English, among other volunteer service activities. I love working with kids and am excited to volunteer in a local school in Costa Rica. I babysit and have a younger brother who I love spending time with. Volunteering in local schools is something I would love to do in many different countries around the world. I am so fortunate to be given free education, and I would love to pay that opportunity forward.
Another big component of the course will be formally studying Spanish for 3-4 hours each day and speaking with locals throughout the trip. My goal is to kickstart my Spanish and to become fluent. The course will allow me to connect with a new culture and become immersed in Spanish.
Asking for help
Any support at all would be a blessing. The trip payment is due by April 1st, 2022, but anytime before June is much appreciated. The course expense is $4035, and travel expenses are $1500 for a total of $5535.
My aspirations
My biggest aspiration is learning a language to connect with cultures outside my town, state and country. Additionally, a big part of my plans are to truly put myself out there to be of service and I am committed to helping others. I am seeking to volunteer my time and help people who have less and need my help the most.
