Jane has always been the heart of our family, especially since becoming a grandma to four wonderful grandchildren. Her home in Greenfield, Wisconsin, has been a gathering place for sleepovers, laughter, and cherished memories. After losing my dad a few years ago—her husband of 47 years—Jane has done her best to keep the house going on her own, even as it’s become more challenging with age and health issues. She feels a deep connection to my dad in this home, and it’s where she finds comfort and strength. This last September would have marked 50 years of marriage for them, making the memories in this home even more meaningful.

Recently, severe storms caused devastating flooding in Jane’s basement. The water rose to nearly two feet, ruining the drywall, carpet, furniture, and essential appliances. Her dryer, air conditioner, and possibly the furnace have stopped working, and the pilot light on her water heater went out, though we were able to get it relit with help. While we were able to replace the failed sump pump and help with cleanup, the cost of repairs and restoration is overwhelming—especially since insurance denied her claim. Jane lost precious family photos and memorabilia, and there’s a real risk of mold, which is especially dangerous given her breathing issues. We’ve borrowed window air conditioners for now, but she needs permanent solutions to stay safe and healthy in her home. Replacing furniture will be important in the future, but right now, restoring her home and getting essential appliances working is the top priority.

Jane is not one to ask for help, but right now, she needs her community.
