Hi, we’re Sal – Jane’s sister- and Catherine – Jane’s friend - and we’re crowd funding to help Sal’s’ beautifully generous sister and my dear friend Jane make a cosy and stable studio home for herself.

As a long-time renter and a woman in her 60s Jane is part of the growing demographic who are marginalised in the housing market. A local and global tourist destination, the Blue Mountains housing market is above the national average of Air BnB and short stay holiday rentals, making the number of permanent rentals small and increasingly expensive. We know this because Jane has been looking unsuccessfully for months.

Working part-time in both disability and retail sectors, Jane is a low-income earner. Jane gives generously of her time and support in her family and friendships. We want to give back to her in helping to fund a cosy home.

An opportunity to secure a studio home on her sister Sal and her husband Rob’s Blue Mountains bush home has come up. The studio needs some love and care to make it into a cosy home. That’s where you come in.

Picture a welcoming home looking onto the bush. So, what improvements are needed to realise this? Painting the interior and exterior; a functional kitchen including a stove and oven; repaired window casements and louvres to manage weather changes; privacy screens; cupboards and shelving; new curtains and blinds and most importantly air conditioning as the studio bakes in summer making it uninhabitable. There’s already a wood burning fireplace so need to worry about the winter cold!

To bring this into reality for Jane she needs a builder, a painter, a gasfitter and plumber for the stove and oven, and an air conditioning installer. Yes, Jane is a hard worker and so are her family and friends who will chip in with the physical labour where possible, and most of the work needs licenced tradespeople. Quotes to date indicate Jane will need approximately $20,000.00 to make a warm, welcoming and secure home. Sal, Rob and Jane will be contributing additional $$$$ to this renovation to make it the home Jane wants and needs and so that she can begin asap.
