Help Us Send Food Relief Barrels to Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
Dear Friends and Supporters,
My name is Milton G Jackson Jr, the owner and operator of Jamaican Kitchen. I live in Connecticut with my family but have always been connected to Jamaica where I grew up with my great aunt, Lurline Heaven.
As you know Hurricane Melissa has devastated several communities across Jamaica, leaving many families without food, shelter, or basic necessities. I have a house in Lilliput St James that took minor damage but is still in good shape. Many other people were not that lucky and have not only lost property but some have lost their lives.
In response, Jamaican Kitchen has launched a Food Relief Barrel Drive to bring help and hope directly to those in need. Jamaican Kitchen is donating $5000 to this cause. I originally thought to send 12 barrels to the community where I grew up in Salt Spring Montego Bay, but I believe with your help we can work together to do even more.
Our goal is to send 60 barrels filled with food supplies to Jamaica — 12 barrels for each of 5 affected communities in the St James area. We’re partnering with local police departments and community leaders to ensure that every barrel reaches the families who need it most.
How You Can Help
Donate here on GoFundMe — your contribution will go toward purchasing, shipping, and clearing the barrels in Jamaica. At this time it is free to clear the barrels in Jamaica, but we will still need to pay someone to pick up and deliver the barrels to selected communities.
Drop off non-perishable food items at any of our 6 Jamaican Kitchen locations across Connecticut. Each location will have a clearly marked donation barrel for this cause.
Every can of food, every dollar, and every prayer helps. Together, we can send strength, hope, and nourishment back home.
What We’re Collecting
Rice, flour, and sugar
Canned meats, fish, and vegetables
Cooking oil, seasoning, and dry goods
Baby food and hygiene items
Our Promise
We will document the packing, shipping, and distribution of all barrels and share updates with our donors. Transparency and community trust are at the heart of this mission.
From our Connecticut family to our brothers and sisters in Jamaica — we’re stronger together. Let’s stand up for those who need us most.
With gratitude,
Milton G. Jackson & The Jamaican Kitchen Family
“One love, one heart — let’s help Jamaica recover together.”
