You've probably seen Jake Fahey serving as a peacekeeper at rallies, benefited from his work to break down silos among community organizers or collaborated with him on one of the many projects he leads to build community and work toward racial and economic justice across southern Maine.
Jake is a warm, welcoming and extremely effective organizer, and Maine is very lucky to have him! Now it's our turn to give back: Jake and his wife, Sarah Brajtbord Fahey, are moving, along with their son, Isaac, to a home they've recently purchased in East Baldwin. Moving in the winter is hard enough -- let alone with a toddler! To show our appreciation for everything Jake does for our community, we're raising money to fund professional movers, so Jake and Sarah can focus on making their new house a home instead of lugging boxes.
I met Jake in January, through the work we are both doing with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ). Jake's role with SURJ Greater Portland is just one of his many responsibilities. He also works as the northern New England program coordinator for the anti-racism organization Community Change, Inc. and as the faith in action coordinator at First Parish UU in Portland. Jake's leadership in these incredibly challenging times is calm, focused and strategic. Let's show our appreciation by helping him, Sarah and Isaac get settled in their new home!
