My name is Brianna, and I am working with Jael and Luca to grow their family! I met Jael in 2014 when she came to the US as an au-pair. She returned to Germany in 2016, met Luca in 2017, and had Emma in 2020.
Here is a little more about them!
Jael, girl name Sommerfeld, was born 1989 in Thailand. Her parents were missionaries in the Mountains of North Thailand. In 2006 she had to leave Thailand and went back to Germany (country of origin of her parents). She always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. After 5 years she graduated and works in a preschool at a social focal point.
As a believer in Christ she found a Church where she found comfort. In 2016 she met there Luca.
Luca, 42 Years old, was born in Germany. His parents came in the 70s as italian immigrant workers to Germany.
He is a Police Officer in Frankfurt.
In 2004 he became a believer too. Gen went to the same Church like Jael.
Jael and Luca were married in 2018 in Germany. In April 2020, Jael delivered a beautiful little girl, named Emma.
Everything was perfect. Ten days after giving birth, Jael suddenly started bleeding uncontrollably. After rushing to the hospital, multiple procedures, and blood transfusions, the doctors were forced to remove Jael’s uterus.
After weeks in the hospital, Jael was alive, but she would never be able to carry a baby again.
Since Jael and Luca come from large families it was always their dream to give Emma siblings of her own. After a year, Jael and Luca decided to consider surrogacy as a way to grow their family. What they discovered was that not only would it be incredibly costly, but it is also impossible to do in Germany. They would have no choice but to travel to the US to grow their family. Jael and Luca are hopeful that one day, their family can be complete, but know that it isn’t possible without help from everyone. Between agency, doctor, legal, surrogate, and travel fees, this journey is estimated to cost over $200,000. We thank you for reading their story, and hope that we can help Jael and Luca with the gift of life to complete their dream of a sibling for Emma.
