My neighbor and best friend, Jacobia Burnett, is an incredible single mom to her sweet eight-year-old son. We met through our kids at the apartment pool this past summer and quickly became close friends. She is the kind of person who gives without hesitation, shows up for others, and works tirelessly to provide for her son.
Recently, while Jacobia was working from home, a fire broke out in another unit of her apartment building. Within moments, the fire spread, overtaking the entire building. The building has since been condemned, and families were forced to evacuate immediately, leaving with only what they could carry. In an instant, Jacobia and her son lost their home and nearly all of their belongings. By the grace of God, they are safe, and that is what matters most. But now they are starting over from scratch. As a single mom, Jacobia never asks for help, so today, I am asking on her behalf.
The funds raised will help Jacobia replace essential belongings and cover the financial burden of finding immediate new housing. They lost everything—furniture, clothes, dishes, toiletries—everything but the clothes on their backs and the shoes on their feet. Any act of kindness, big or small, will make a difference. Every little bit helps lighten the weight of rebuilding a life. This is more than replacing things; it’s about restoring stability for a hardworking mom and her little boy who deserve to feel safe and supported. Thank you for showing compassion, for being the kind of community that lifts each other up, and for helping remind them that even after loss, hope still rises.
