Help Jacob Heal from His Traumatic Injury
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I’m the proud mom of Jacob.
Jacob is a very kind, intelligent and gifted 12 year old and a 7th grader at CMP- shingle springs campus.
Jacob is a GATE student, is in advanced math, in the spelling bee for 3 years running and is also very artistically gifted as well.
Besides his academic gifts, Jacob is one of the kindest kids you’ll ever meet. He is instantly loved by everyone, is a bit of a class clown and always lights up the room. He is incredibly amazing with littles as well and volunteers at a local church.
He is the second oldest of a family with 7 kiddos. We are “blended and blessed” we say. He lives with me (mom), bonusDad and his siblings (on his mom’s side).
On Saturday, May 3rd, his sister was being attacked and Jacob without hesitation jumped in to protect her. The adult turned their attention on Jacob and repeatedly slammed him to the ground, first on tile and then cement/bricks.
Jacob was rushed to Marshall Hospital in Placerville and after the initial tests the doctors had him transferred via ambulance down to UCD.
Jacob has a concussion, a fracture to the back of his skull (occipital and temporal), epidural hematoma (swelling with blood clot), pneumococcal (air pushing on the brain or in that pocket of broken skull), right ear hearing loss and cannot stand by himself. This TBI (traumatic brain injury) will take some time to heal.
He was placed in UCD PICU unit for several days. The critical hours have now passed where now we focus on recovery and the road ahead. He is now in a step down unit and remains in the hospital.
He is being followed by the neurosurgeon and trauma team and working with PT, speech as well as UCD’s plethora of amazing staff and specialists.
We as a family, like many families right now are on a tight budget. We manage our finances as well as we can but with this unforeseen traumatic event it has thrown some expenses our way that we weren’t ready for at all.
From gas, parking fees, food while down at UCD with Jacob as well as other unexpected expenses due to this event we have decided to reach out to our family, friends and neighbors.
If you are able to donate to help us get through this traumatic chapter in our lives and to help Jacob get the support and everything he does and may need we would be truly grateful!
Thank you for reading! If you don’t have extra funds, we completely understand we are asking for prayers as well :)
I’m setting the goal at $1k. If anything extra is raised it will go to doing something fun and memorable for Jacob that is safe with his TBI.
An extra note:
I would rather focus on Jacob in my message but I know for curiosity sake for any readers of this… Yes, CPS (both EDC and Yuba county where the event took place) and the Sheriff’s Department and DA’s office have been amazingly on top of the legal side of this traumatic event. The perpetrator is in county jail and has been charged with Felony Child Abuse with Great Bodily Injury.
UPDATE-
We first want to thank you all! We are SO moved by the outpouring of support, prayers and love by our family, friends and neighbors!!
We are happy to update you all and tell you….Jacob is back home!!
He is able to talk and move around but very slowly or with help (no stairs, etc).
He has a special pillow to prop him up 30 degrees or more as he cannot fully lay down for the coming months. He needs quiet, rest and can’t concentrate without his head hurting. Jacob is unable to do simple math, read a clock or have fun racing his stepdad with his rubix cube or anything remotely close to his “norm” but he is alive! And can still draw (this fact is making him happy that he can hold on to that pre incident part of himself).
He is on home health and we have many follow ups with his pediatrician, neurologist, ENT, the trauma team, PT and possible speech.
He is out of school now until at least August. He had to miss out on the Spelling Bee today (but his team wore the number 13, his favorite number as he was born on Friday the 13th, on their shirts so he can be there in spirit with them). He is unable to do his Algebra final to allow him to move to Geometry his 8th grade year but the school said we can easily figure that out so we are happy for that! He also will miss out on the end of the school year fun, the Sac zoo overnight trip and Sunsplash but is looking forward to doing something fun and special as a family when he is healed.
All in all we are SO glad my boy is home! He survived an injury that could have easily taken his life! God has some amazing plans for Jacob and I’m so grateful I get to watch him continue to grow and become the great man he is destined to be!
Adding this note:
We now have a CPO (criminal protective order) in place for our family, home, schools and especially the children involved. The perpetrator is still currently in jail but may post bail so this was very important to us.
