Jack McTasney Eagle Project

My name is Jack McTasney and I am a Life Scout in Troop 97 New City NY. I am currently working to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout and I need your help.
I want to improve the playground at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Christian Day School. The school provides preschool and daycare for young children. I first considered St. Pauls for my eagle project when I worked with my friend Martin T. Donohue III on his Eagle project a few months ago. I talked with the pastor a few times during the project and came to realize that there was a lot of work that could be done for the school, especially within the fenced in playground.
The fence itself is covered with torn up privacy screening that the program director has to go out and re-tie almost every morning. There is a large bush poking through the fence near the front gate. Inside of the fence is the playground which has a concrete bench in very poor condition, as well as a noticeably slanted area that has large exposed roots on the ground and poison ivy growing on the fence. These are all hazards, but the exposed roots and low concrete bench are extremely dangerous for children learning how to walk. The bush, as well as the poison ivy, could also easily hurt them.
The goal of my project is to:
- Remove the privacy screening and replace it with more permanent privacy slats that are installed into the fence itself.
- Remove the bench and all safety hazards within the playground.
- Improve the landscaping within the fence
The funds will be used for new materials, tools and supplies and removal of safety hazards. I will be working on the project throughout the month of May 2021. Any extra or additional money that comes in will be donated to the school.
I really want to create a safer, nicer place for the kids and take some of the burden off of the adults in charge so they can focus their energy on the kids.
