Please help us help our son Jax & his 2 beloved cats recover physically, mentally, emotionally & financially from trauma related to being severely physically & mentally abused by his biological mother during childhood & early adulthood. Jax, who is 23, neurodivergent, and trans, was finally was able to break free from his abusive mother by moving in with a romantic partner whom he thought was a safe person. Devastatingly, the relationship quickly became incredibly toxic. He realized he was being used, gas lit & emotionally abused.
When Jax's toxic ex-partner ended their relationship so abruptly & cruelly that it bordered on sadistic, it left Jax and his 2 emotional support cats homeless. He was very much in crisis and called my wife for help. We don't use the words "step" or "half" in our family, but my wife, is technically Jax's "stepmother" from her previous marriage to Jax's biological father.
When he arrived at our home he was utterly exhausted in body and soul. Totally burnt out, visibly physically and mentally unwell.
His only options were to be homeless and living in his car, or go back to his biological mother for more abuse. Instead, he called the parent he felt most loved by, and safest with, for help - my wife. Since Jax was 4 or 5 years old, she had always told him, "I may not be your bio mom, but you will always be MY kid." Jax never forgot that, or that he did have family who loved him.
He has been safe in our home for a little over a month now. My wife has helped him arrange both mental and physical health care appointments.
Our family is committed to providing Jax with a safe, loving place to live without worrying about rent or food costs; connecting him with appropriate medical and mental heath providers; supporting him in prioritizing his healthcare needs, and helping him to navigate the complexity of the health care system so that he can focus on rest, recovery and his care needs. He doesn't just have me & my wife; every day he gets to spend time with younger siblings & grand parents who love and adore him.
Minimally, Jax is going to need significant mental health care, medical assessments, and treatments over at least the next year.
- Jax is in constant physical pain and he hasn't been able to get a definitive answer as to why. He currently has medical insurance but with high copays. It is still unclear as to all the cause of his pain, and what tests and treatment will be needed, if he will even be able to work again or if he will need to apply for permanent disability.
We will provide Jax with as much financial support as possible. However, the high costs of the care he needs, as well as the very significant amount of money needed just to keep his car, pay his car insurance and make the bare minimum payments on his outstanding debt, far exceed our ability to make those payments for him. Sometimes it feels as if Jax just can't get a break. The poor kid's car brakes failed on the way to our house, so car repair cost is also a big concern right now.
- In addition to regular monthly car payments (now past due-unfortunately he was taken advantage of by a predatory loan company that will not allow him to refinance) and car insurance: Jax took out thousands of dollars in credit card debt & a predatory personal loans because his ex-partner was unable to work due to their own medical and mental health issues.
- The ex-partner failed to disclose to Jax before he moved in that there were several thousands of dollars in past due rent owed on the apartment they were living in. Jax spent every penny of his savings, worked around the clock, and still had to take on additional debt, because he was the only one in the relationship who had income, just to try to keep a roof over both their heads and food on the table. Then, after being bled dry physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially, Jax was kicked out with no place to live.
Humbly & with sincere gratitude, we ask you to please consider donating any amount you possible can to this Go Fund Me for Jax.
Every penny donated will go directly to Jax to help relieve the stress and anxiety triggered by his financial situation so that he can heal, recover, & find stability in life.
Your generous donations will allow him to finally focus on his own physical and mental health care needs; without worrying about losing his car or car insurance. Every donation, no matter the amount helps and is appreciated. If our initial fundraising goal is met that would cover his financial obligations for 2-3 months.
- If we can exceed our initial fundraising goal; and can reach $10,000 to $12,000, Jax would be able to focus solely on his physical & mental health recovery for close to a year; without the added anxiety caused by his tenuous financial situation.
Due to the highly personal nature of Jax's situation, we are only sharing this GoFundMe discreetly & privately with safe members of the LGBTQ+ community & allies personally known to Jax, ourselves & our friends.
