Help Isaac Davis Get The Chance He Deserves

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Matthew Davis and I am starting this Go Fund Me campaign for the benefit of my parents and my youngest brother Isaac Davis.

My parents adopted my brother Isaac the day he was born, nearly 15-years-ago.  My family is Caucasian and live in a predominantly White area of rural Idaho, they still live in the same small town where I was raised.  Isaac is Black and while I assumed that racism would not be a problem where I grew up, I have been deeply disappointed by the experiences that Isaac has had to deal with as a Black youth in a predominantly White community.

Over the past year, my parents have been dealing with several allegations that have been filed against Isaac, involving some students and teachers from his school.  I won’t go into all the details but I can tell you that the behaviors are not out of the ordinary for a teenage boy to do and they are much less severe than I myself exhibited as a boy or witnessed from my peers, often in front of adults or faculty at the school… all of which were not met with more than a firm word or at worst, detention.  The allegations that are being leveled at my brother are severe, severe enough that they would be extremely detrimental to his academic future, self-esteem, and reputation for quite some time.  My parents have had to secure legal counsel to defend Isaac, an active case that has been going on for nearly 9 months and during which time my parents have had to home school Isaac.  The costs of doing so have become a hardship for my parents financially and I would be most grateful for any support that is out there.  If you could join me in donating to their cause, I know they would greatly appreciate it.

Have you ever made a mistake?  Perhaps said something that you regretted saying?  I know that I have.  I have yet to meet a perfect person and I have always thought highly of those that are big enough to admit they are wrong and apologize.  Have you ever apologized to someone, only to have that person lash out and report you?  I have not had that experience, but Isaac has.  Have you ever been singled out in front of your classmates and pointed out as a bully?  I can only imagine how humiliating and demeaning that would be; I have not experienced that, but Isaac has.  Can you ride your bike or take a walk through your neighborhood without feeling like someone is constantly watching you to see what you might do?  I can, but Isaac can’t.

I grew up in the same small town as Isaac is growing up in now.  I stole from the local grocery store a few times as a kid, felt bad, apologized, and never did it again.  I got in a few heated fights with some other boys as a kid, a couple ended up with some thrown punches and fat lips (something Isaac has never done by the way)?  As a teenager, I got a speeding ticket for going in excess of 50 mph over the posted speed limit in the middle of town, the policeman justifiably gave me a sever scolding.  Still, the charges were dropped by taking a defensive driving course and everyone at school thought it was so cool that there is a story about it in my High School yearbook.  I wonder, what would have happened had Isaac been behind the wheel?  I can tell you that the things that Isaac is dealing with now are less severe than my offenses above… some of which I would feel hard pressed to even label as offenses.

I love my brother Isaac and my parents are doing their best to raise him to be a good upstanding citizen.  He is kind, he is funny, and he has a big heart.  He is a talented musician and basketball player and I know that those that truly know him, love him and admire him.  Isaac has always been extremely big for his age, at 6’ 5” tall at 14-years-old, I think people can be intimidated by his size and the color of his skin.  However, being big and having a different color of skin should not merit being treated differently than everyone else.  We are the human race, we are all brothers and sisters, we are all in this together.  Everyone deserves that chance to have a chance.  So please, if you agree and have the means, please help my family out.  God bless!
