Help Imani get a mobility van!
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Angie. I am creating this GoFundMe to be able to purchase a handicapped van for my daughter. It is very hard for me to put my pride aside, but it's time. It's time I reach out for the help we need. So here I am. This is our story. My daughter's name is Imani. She has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, dystonia, cortical visual impairment, and developmental delays. Imani is 12 years old and will be the big 13 in October. She loves listening to music, singing, watching movies, playing the drums, going for walks, and playing with her younger siblings. She attends the Maryland School for the Blind and is in the 6th grade. Imani has been in a wheelchair ever since she grew out of a stroller. Over the years we have been able to use my mom's car for transportation. Since about age 10 it has become extremely difficult to get her into a car. It takes two strong adults to be able to transport her from the wheelchair to the back seat of a car. Imani has limited mobility and her legs are very tight. It can be very difficult for us and even dangerous for Imani considering how big she has gotten in the last 2 years. Since COVID hit Imani has been home every day except doctors appointments. I serve at a local restaurant. I honestly feel weird about creating this page. I have always supported her and her needs. This time it's challenging for myself considering I don't have the best credit or much money to work with. My dream is to be able to put Imani and her siblings into a van and hit the road. I can't remember the last time we all went out as a family. It's extremely hard getting a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and a 12 year old in a wheelchair in a car at once. Last year she had new hardware and adjustments done to her wheelchair. Half of it fits in the trunk and the other half in a seat which takes up the place someone else would ride. So without the extra seat or extra adult lifting Imani it's impossible to even go anywhere as a family. The most we have done as a family outside of the home is walk to the grocery store. Luckily it's nearby. Things like the park aren't much of an option outside of the home. Imani sees her brother and sister play on the playground and use the slide. Most days we go there she is upset because she can't do the things they do. She is 120 pounds and I wouldn't even risk lifting her up on a playground. I just want her to be happy and take her places. If we had a van it could open up her options. Maybe go for walks in a different area. Maybe even a restaurant. We haven't been out to eat with all of us ever. Having a handicapped van would help us immensely. We would get that sense of normalcy. Even if we were just visiting a family member or going for a car ride. Maybe even the beach one day. Over the years I've looked into some vans. I have never found one for sale by a private owner in a decent price range. Probably because they are definitely a necessity when caring for someone who is wheelchair bound. This leans me more towards a dealership. Which could be a great thing. Getting a van with a warranty. The downsides are credit checks and down payments. Although I am working, I don't have much money saved. Also I don't have much credit established. If I was able to come up with the money this would be a huge BLESSING for Imani and all of us. It would actually be life changing. I would love to see the excitement of joy on her face rolling up in her new van. The money I use for Lyft and yellow cab to get to work would go towards the van monthly payments and auto insurance. Imani is such a sweet, brave young girl. Anyone who knows her knows she brightens the room she enters. I posted two links below of Imani singing on YouTube for you to see who Imani is. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read our story. I really don't like asking anyone for help. As Imani was growing up I never realized how difficult it would be to get around as she got older. I always just figured out a way like any mom. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again and God bless you all!!!!!!!
