PLEASE FLY A PAPER PLANE FOR HUXLEY AND HELP HIM FIGHT LEUKAEMIA
Huxley needs your help – please, donate, download, fold and fly! #PaperPlanesForHuxley
We need the Nation to help us reach this target for Huxley. Huxley is 10 and suffering from a rare form of Leukaemia. The treatment he needs is not available in the UK, so he urgently needs funding to pay for treatment and travel. We are asking everyone to please donate what you can and fly a paper plane to bring him closer in his journey to treatment.
Design your own or Download your plane here
We desperately need this little idea to go viral, each paper plane goes a little further than the last, every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to giving Huxley, our gentle nature loving sportsman, the treatment he needs to stabilise the cancer cell count to enable him to receive the lifesaving treatment he urgently needs.
So please, please, please:
- Donate whatever you can
- Make and design your plane (or download ours)
- Share your flight on all your socials and nominate 5 friends to fly #PaperPlanesForHuxley
Huxley has an incredibly rare blood cancer, a genetic mutation of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia AML – CEBPA mutation. Despite Huxley’s remarkable resilience and positive outlook his cancer is now refractory - meaning the leukaemia has not been controlled by standard intensive treatments. Despite three rounds of intensive chemotherapy over the past 6 months in hospital his body is still producing active cancer cells. Now, his only hope of long-term survival is an umbilical or donor stem cell transplant which requires months of isolation and intensive treatment.
The family are so grateful for the wonderful care received at the Royal Marsden, they have been surrounded in love from all around and thank you for those friends and family already having donated to help Huxley and his family through treatment. Unfortunately, his genes (CEBPA c.932A>C p.inGin311Pro) are not behaving as the experts expected despite changes to his treatment already. Time critical decisions now need to be made.
We are exploring options outside of the NHS remit, we are already waiting for approval for one medication designed to stabilise the cancer cell count. More of these treatments sit outside standard funding routes and decisions need to be implemented quickly to make a difference to Huxley.
For the treatment to be possible, the cancer must be reduced to a low enough level. We will not stop researching treatment, there are active clinical trials in (CAR) T-cell therapy that may help Huxley. The family are now in contact with numerous hospitals abroad to determine what they may be able to offer Huxley. These treatments may be able to bring his cancer levels down enough for him to receive the lifesaving treatment he urgently needs but each comes at an enormous cost – around £500,000.
The family are doing everything they can to support Huxley and his 6 year old brother Monty, who is now being home educated and receiving therapy to help him cope but they cannot reach this target on their own.
We are asking with hope and love in our hearts, for your help.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to giving Huxley the opportunity he deserves. The opportunity to grow up with his brother. To return to cricket, tennis and swimming. The opportunity to keep being the bright, creative, animal-loving little boy he’s always been, with his dreams of being a guardian of fields and forests with his big heart and muddy boots!
If you’re able to share or donate, thank you it means more than words can say.
Thank you for helping this wonderful little boy.
Important note:
This is a personal fundraiser created to support Huxley and his family. It is not being run on behalf of, or in partnership with, any registered charity. Any surplus funds will be used for further treatment, care and medical needs for Huxley. If, in the event that funds remain unused, they will be donated to a charity that supports children and families facing childhood cancer.
