My name is Emily and I am an LSU graduate and former Houston ISD elementary school teacher. I taught there for one year and previously I taught three years in Bastrop County. Approximately one year ago I was living in Houston and there was catastrophic flooding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. With the help of countless friends and donors, we (Help Baton Rouge Rebuild) were able to raise thousands of dollars to provide supplies, food, and clothing to those in need in BR. I have recently moved back to Baton Rouge, and now a large part of southeast Texas is experiencing catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey.
Your donation will pay for: cleaning supplies, plastic buckets, food, water and clothing for friends and former colleagues/students of mine in The Houston, Rockport and Beaumont area. We can also use funds for special requests on behalf of donors with friends in the area who are in need. For example, if a person needs a box fan, they can contact me and I will be sure they get it.
My hope is that we can return the love and generosity to our neighbors in Texas. Please join me in providing much needed help to those who helped us a year ago.
I will be withdrawing the money and using the funds to purchase items for the Lee College shelter in Baytown, family friends in Jasper and Beaumont, and for former coworkers in the Houston area. I will post all receipts with an itemized list of purchased items as things are bought.
Each time I visit a store I will speak with management first and attempt to receive a discounted price for items so to make the best use of your money.
