We are HOMES: Hope, Opportunity, Mobilization, Education, and Society. For the queer and Two-Spirit community in Central Alberta, we are more than just an organization—we are a home. We provide a safe haven from a world that is often hostile and a lifeline for some of the most vulnerable youth in our province.
Our work is critical, but it is under a devastating threat. We currently owe our landlord $10,000 in overdue rent and advance payments. If we can't raise this money in time, we will be evicted, and our doors will be forced to close.
The need for our space is urgent. Queer youth, and especially our Two-Spirit community members, face incredible obstacles to finding safety and belonging. We are a place where they can escape judgment, access essential services, and connect with a community that sees and values them for who they are.
Sadly, this essential work is not easy to fund. Despite our continuous efforts to secure grants, the reality is that the words "queer" and "Two-Spirit" are often seen as "ugly" by funders and politicians in Alberta. The systemic hatred and prejudice we face make it nearly impossible to get the financial support we need to survive.
Losing our physical space would not just be a setback; it would be a tragedy. It would mean the loss of a vital sanctuary, leaving a community without a home.
The good news is that if we can raise this $10,000, we won't owe rent again until January. This isn't just about paying a bill; it's about giving us the crucial time we need to secure sustainable funding and get back on solid ground. As an organization run entirely by volunteers—who have been paying for many things out of our own pockets—this fundraiser is our only way to ensure we can keep serving our community.
Your donation—no matter the size—is an act of love and solidarity. It's a direct investment in the safety, well-being, and future of queer and Two-Spirit youth in Central Alberta.
Please help us keep our doors open. Help us keep our home.
