Hello, my name is Hillary Jaramillo. I am reaching out with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit to ask for support for my mom, Gregoria.
My mom came to the United States from Colombia in the 1990s to build a better future for me and my siblings. She worked hard, always the breadwinner in our home, even as her health began to decline in 2008. Despite facing medical challenges, she never stopped fighting to provide for us.
In 2021, our lives changed forever when my brother, Junior — a beloved urban music artist from Colombia — was tragically murdered on June 13th. He was not only my mom’s only son, but also her greatest support system. Losing him broke my mom’s heart and spirit, and the grief led to serious health complications. On the second anniversary of his death, she suffered three strokes, which left her paralyzed.
My mom spent 9 months in the hospital, missing birthdays, holidays, and New Year’s. Every day, I was by her side. When she was finally able to come home, I became her full-time caregiver. She now requires 24/7 care, a hospital bed at home, and daily medication. On top of this, she faces multiple health complications that make her care even more demanding.
I am a single mother raising my 11-year-old daughter, who also helps me care for her grandmother. My mom is truly like a second mother to my daughter, and we do everything we can as a family. But the truth is — between my mom’s medications, household bills, food, gas, and my daughter’s needs — I can no longer keep up. I don’t receive benefits for my mom since she is not a U.S. citizen, and I have tried every option I can think of.
This is my last resort. It hurts my pride to ask for help, but I have to do this for my mom. She deserves to live with dignity, comfort, and proper medical care.
If you are able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to us. And if you cannot give, please consider sharing our story. Your support — in any form — will help ease the heavy weight we are carrying.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for keeping my mom in your prayers.
With love,
Hillary
