I'm reaching out on behalf of a truly incredible woman and dear friend — Helen Cooper. Helen is the kind of person who gives everything she has to help others, even when she has little to give. She’s a mother, a sponsor, a fighter, and a survivor. And right now, she needs our help.
Helen's Story
Helen has been clean and sober for over 3 years — a milestone that reflects not just her strength, but her deep commitment to rebuilding her life. Through every step of her recovery, she's been a beacon of hope for so many others. As a sponsor, she’s guided countless women through the hardest days of their journeys. She listens without judgment, shows up without fail, and loves with a heart that’s been broken but never hardened.
But behind her warm smile and compassionate spirit is a pain that few see — because Helen doesn’t have teeth.
The Silent Struggle
Helen has applied multiple times to get help through dental assistance programs, but she's been repeatedly denied. Each rejection chips away at her hope and confidence. She’s told me how self-conscious, embarrassed, and even “ugly” she feels — words no one who knows her would ever use to describe her. But this constant insecurity is holding her back in so many ways: from applying for jobs, from fully stepping into leadership roles in her recovery community, and from simply smiling without covering her mouth.
Dentures may seem small to some, but for Helen, they would mean freedom. The freedom to eat without pain. To laugh without shame. To speak proudly. To be seen the way she truly is: beautiful, inside and out.
The Goal
We’re raising $4,000 to cover the full cost of a set of quality dentures — including fittings, extractions if needed, and follow-up care. Every dollar brings her closer to smiling again with confidence and dignity. (We recently got word of the total amount, which was lower than originally quoted, so we’ve lowered our goal of $6,000 down to $4,000!)
How You Can Help
Helen would never ask for this herself — that’s why I’m doing it for her. If you know the power of a genuine smile, if you’ve ever been lifted up by someone like Helen, or if you simply believe that people who give so much deserve to receive, then please consider donating.
No amount is too small. And if you can’t give, please share this campaign and help us spread the word. Together, we can give Helen a reason to smile again.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
