My older brother Heath is facing a difficult legal situation after his rights were violated during a traffic stop in September of last year.
He was a passenger in a car that had gotten profiled while parked at his place of residence.
From that point, he was unlawfully detained, had his property confiscated and was unable to call for help or to inform his family/friends of his situation.
Upon taking him to the police station, the officer coerced my brother for his DNA in exchange for him to go home that same day since he worked overnights as an industrial fork lifter, is the sole provider for his family and could not miss work.
My older brother was subjected to an unlawful search and seizure. Despite being shown documented and clear evidence of these violations in court, the judge still allowed the violations to stand, and Heath was found guilty of a charge he did not commit.
His family & friends alongside his current lawyer have been fighting for months and now we need your help.
My brother now has an appeal coming up, but he cannot afford the legal fees needed to hire an appeal lawyer.
The funds raised through this campaign will go DIRECTLY toward those legal fees, giving my brother a chance to fight this injustice and ensure his rights are protected.
With your support, Heath will be able to obtain the representation he needs for a fair trial.
"My older brother is my lifeline and my last remaining direct family member. He has invested heavily into me furthering my education as both a psychology and communications major and has been an active supporter through many of my endeavors as a local activist and artist. I fear without his help, my fall semester might not be a reality this year, and I would have to put a lot of things on hold. Because of this he's missed births, birthdays, his younger sister becoming senate president of her college, award ceremonies, graduations and so on! The list continues to grow the more time he spends in there. This is more than unacceptable. This is his life we are talking about here! My brother isn't a bar code you scan; He is a human being with rights!"
-Lakee Abner (Heath's Youngest sister)
