On what started as a normal day, I saw someone who appeared to be in a car accident and stopped to help, wanting to do the right thing. Instead, I was attacked, my car was destroyed, and my life was put in danger. The person who attacked me also went after the police officer who arrived on the scene, and I had to help the officer subdue the attacker. The attacker had tried to attack a woman 10 minutes earlier, but she was able to drive away. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where I learned I had four broken ribs, a brain bleed, multiple contusions, and a concussion. The attacker kicked in the windshield, hood, and roof, and my car is probably totaled from the damage. The physical pain and trauma from that day have been overwhelming, and the emotional toll has been just as heavy.

My name is Hans, and my family and I live paycheck to paycheck. We are not wealthy. Now, on top of trying to heal, I am facing auto and hospital deductibles, as well as tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses. Even with insurance, I have no idea how these bills will be paid. The uncertainty is frightening, and the financial burden is more than we can handle alone.
