My name is Anthony Gettig and I'm starting this fundraiser for my daughter Hannah Westra and her family. They are in desperate need of another decent used vehicle after a terrible crash took out the vehicle my son in law drives to work.

On Sunday evening December 22, 2024, at around 8 PM, my son in law was driving himself and three of our grandsons (ages 8, 11, and 12) back from a family Christmas party. Hannah was at home with the 3 year old. He is a very rambunctious little fella.

Eric came up on a curve by XY Avenue and Portage Road (South of Portage, kinda heading out near Vicksburg). This is not an area he usually drives, especially not at night. He realized it was a curve too late and then went through it, being stopped by the big tree. The result is the photo attached to this GoFundMe.

Obviously, this is not what they wanted to overshadow the Christmas season. :(

We thank Jesus that none of them were seriously injured physically. The youngest was taken by ambulance to the hospital and spent the night after a scan showed a slight chance of internal injuries. Thankfully, he ended up being fine and was released this morning (the day after the accident). The others were seen by the ER team as well and released. The injuries were minor (seat belt rash, bruises, and a sprained thumb mostly).

Friends and family, all I can say is they sincerely need help. They have had a very, very difficult year financially. Through God's wonderful provision, a dear family member blessed them with the money to get a couple of used vehicles a couple of months ago. Eric's was the most reliable. The other one is a minivan with multitudinous issues and Hannah needs it to run kids to school, doctor appointments, etc.

In addition to the vehicle issues, they've had some unexpected (and IMO unfair) bills arise this year. Bottom line: they need to get another decent used vehicle so my son in law can continue to provide for his family. Anything extra will go to help them get some breathing room with their bills, including medical bills for my son in law. (The boys will have their expenses covered. Not sure about Eric though.)

If you're like me, you like to help people who are honestly trying their best. I can tell you with all that is within me that Hannah and Eric are salt of the Earth and truly trying to make it through for each other and their four boys. Hannah is a very frugal stay at home mom. Eric is an assistant store manager and works more than 40 hours each week. At least one of the boys is on the autism spectrum and another has ADHD. Folks, they really are trying and they really do need the help.
