Help Hannah After Matt's Sudden Passing

Our hearts are broken as we share the devastating news of Matt’s sudden passing on April 17th, 2025. He was a devoted fiancé to Hannah Fannin, a loving father to Makayla Ruggles, Kevin Ison, and Angel and Gabe Fannin, and a cherished friend to many. Matt was a pillar of strength in the recovery community, always ready to lead an ear and offer support to those navigating their own struggles. He was also a dedicated student to nutrition and dietetics, honored on the presidents list at Ashland Community and Technical College, demonstrating his commitment to building a brighter future for his family. Matt was the sole provider for his young children and Hannah, who diligently manages their household while pursuing her degree. Now, Hannah and her children face an unimaginable void and the daunting reality of navigating their life without their rock.

We have created this GoFundMe campaign to provide immediate and on going support to Hannah and their children in this incredibly difficult time. Our goal is to alleviate the financial burden they now face, allowing Hannah the time and space to grieve the loss of her beloved Matt without the added stress of immediate financial concerns. These funds will help cover essential living expenses and support the children’s future wellbeing.

Matt was an extraordinary man who poured his heart into his family. He loved Hannah and his children deeply and was always the first to offer a helping hand, whether it was remodeling his grandmother-in-law’s bathroom or stepping in to help care for his cousin-in-law’s children during a time of need. His passion extended to his vocation, where he supported expectant mothers and newborns in their recovery journeys, and he generously shared his own story with new fathers through the Commonwealth Center for Fathers and Families’ KyDad Academy.

Matt was on the cusp of achieving so many significant milestones. He recently celebrated 4 years of sobriety on March 24th. On April 16th, Hannah officially adopted their two youngest children just two days before he passed. He was eagerly anticipating his graduation on May 9th, the start of his bachelor’s program on August 18th, and his wedding to Hannah in September 6th. It’s with profound sadness that we realize that he will not have the chance to experience these precious moments he worked so hard for.

We also extend our deepest sympathies to those Matt supported in their recovery journeys. May his memory inspire you to continue your fight.
