Hey, I'm Andres Bravo. I'm the founder of the Hanai Collective, a local chef, farmer and Waialua community member of North shore, Oahu.

In the past couple weeks our community has been hit hard with severe storms and flooding. More recently leading to evacuation orders where folks who could leave, were ordered to. Many people however, did not have the means to leave and their homes, cars, businesses, farms/crops, tents, were hit hard by the floods. Livelihoods altered. Unhoused encampments full of families have been devastated. I have been fortunate to call oahu my home for over a decade and this is the first time I have experienced storms at this caliber.

Waialua is home to so many incredible farmers who dedicate their lives to growing food for our community. Natural disasters like the recent flood can really cause a huge set back and take a huge mental and emotional toll on them. It already takes every minute of sunlight and ounce of energy to keep a farm thriving in good conditions. When all their hard work gets swept away in a natural disaster it can feel overwhelming. Yet our farmers persist and work harder than ever to save their dream and their families.
