Welcome to my fundraising page! I am so glad you're here!
This summer, I will be traveling with a team of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists to Mukinge Mission Hospital in Zambia, Africa, to provide anesthesia during surgery for the people of Zambia. Our team is serving through Samaritan's Purse/World Medical Mission and will treat patients in northern Zambia throughout the two-week trip at the end of July. Serving on a medical missions trip has been a dream of mine since I began nursing school in 2015, and I am thrilled to be able to serve in a unique capacity for people who need care but do not have reasonable access to surgeons or anesthesia providers. According to the World Health Organization, Zambia has a surgeon-patient ratio of 1:160,000, which means this encounter with both a surgeon and anesthesia providers is incredibly rare- we are prepared to work diligently and compassionately to treat as many patients as possible.
The types of surgeries we will encounter range from orthopedic corrections from improperly healed injuries and congenital malformations, burn debridements (often pediatric patients), pediatric trauma, amputations, and C-sections, but we can expect to treat patients outside of these needs. Our team will be treating pediatric, adult, and pregnant women, and will offer safe and adequate pain relief with spinal nerve blocks and peripheral nerve blocks, as well as general anesthesia induction.
I am so excited to begin this new chapter of serving outside of the comfort of the United States healthcare system, where supplies and resources are abundant. This new challenge is exciting, hopeful, and will be life-altering for patients who will begin proper healing after surgery.
Here is where I need your help:
First, would you join me in prayer? Prayers specifically for safety and cohesion of our team, for the patients of Zambia to experience physical healing through our service, and for the Lord to work in big ways throughout this mission?
Second, would you consider supporting me financially? As a full-time graduate student, this trip will only be possible with the financial support of friends and family who see this work as meaningful and necessary.
I am so lucky to be able to go to school for my dream career, and I am hopeful this first medical missions trip ignites a fire that propels me to continue to serve internationally for the next few decades!
**EDIT** Y'all have been SO generous to me- I originally put the goal at $2,000 because I didn’t even think I would raise these funds before July, and I have reached most of the original goal in the first few hours!! The cost of the trip is ~$4,000 and I am overwhelmed with everyone's generosity. The Lord has blessed me greatly ❤️
All of my love and gratitude,
Haleigh
