Multinational corporations are keen on eroding African indigenous seeds and food systems through legislation and push for agribusiness which often comes as a package of synthetic fertilisers ,herbicides, hybrids and Genetically modified seeds.
Food systems in Africa , particularly seeds which is the foundation of food production continues to be under attack. Tried and tested over years by smallholder farmers, indigenous seeds are climate resilient, nutritious and culturally appropriate. Legislations are getting changed to give way for GMOs.
This calls for collective efforts and solidarity to strengthen indigenous food and seed systems , to support smallholder farmers and their organisations working towards securing land , seed and food systems. Power must go back to the food producers not stay in the hands of corporations.
