HADEEL’S STORY:
Image: Hadeel Abu Mteer, as a student

"Hello, I am Hadeel from the north of the Gaza Strip."
Hadeel was studying to be a nurse before their university, home, car, and family business were destroyed. She and her family have been displaced since October 2023. They have had to flee destroyed areas multiple times, traveling miles on foot to relocate for safety.

In Hadeel’s own words:
“I am Hadeel, I was displaced from the north of the Gaza Strip to the south of the Gaza Strip after my house was bombed on October 7th, and then our workplace, our car, and our university were destroyed. We lost everything we owned, so I fled with our bodies to the south of the valley in search of safety and escape from death. I did not take anything with me. Now I am standing halfway, trying to complete my studies to become a nurse to serve my people and support my family. My family consists of 12 people, most of them children. I hope you will help me and my family to get food now, then evacuate my family and complete my studies.”

As of 2025, Hadeel and her family have been suffering from forced starvation. Humanitarian aid has been blocked for MONTHS.
There are no proteins in Gaza and going to the market is extremely dangerous. They have resorted to even making soup from trees, salt, and stones, pictured above, when they could not get flour.

SINCE JUNE 2024

Hadeel and I (Anaïs, the funds’ organizer) have been working together since June 2024 to help her and her family get funding for food, shelter, medication, and clean water.

We have talked extensively and she is the strongest person I have ever met! Please contact me (Anaïs, the organizer) on IG at anaismoniq if you have any questions about verification or about Hadeel's wellbeing.

“The situation is getting worse here. The enemy is threatening to enter the country. We are tired of the sounds of bombing and explosions,” Hadeel tells me. “I will now be displaced from Rafah to another place.”

JULY 2024
Whenever she could, Hadeel would also help others.
All around them are desperate children who have lost their parents to the bombings. “Here, there are many frustrated and desperate Palestinian children who have stopped going to school.” In the beginning of the bombardment, Hadeel was able to help some of the children by providing food, clean water, medication, clothes, shelter (tents), and also access to joyful moments (like candies).

Hadeel organized a clean water initiative for her tent community in July 2024, pictured below.

OCTOBER 2024

In the fall of 2024, Hadeel asked to share the story of Baby Soha, one of the many newborns who have lost their parents to the bombardment. Baby Soha was suffering with severe jaundice due to the pollution from constant bombing and mass displacement.

Hadeel's sister, Ola, was pregnant at the start of their displacement. She gave birth to a healthy newborn in October 2024. Both were healthy at the time of birth, thank God. Ola also needs assistance to care for her baby since Ola’s husband was killed in the bombardment. They were searching for more stable and safe housing for the whole family to better care for the baby. With winter, their tents were damaged and flooded by the severe rains. They managed to make some repairs. They needed winter clothes for their family of 12 as the weather continued to get much colder.

The bombs have not stopped. Hadeel reported to me that bullets were falling at the feet of her family, pictured above. Fires at nearby tents, and also the constant sound of drones that surveil her camp keep them from ever sleeping.

SINCE JANUARY 2025

Image: Food Prices

Clean water as of 2025 is very hard to find. Food is becoming very scarce.
People in Gaza have not had access to humanitarian aid for months. Men, women, and babies are starving and dying. Food is very limited and expensive. Prices on necessities continue to sky-rocket. Even the prices pictured above are outdated.

AUGUST 2025

Image: Injuries during air drop

Trucks with thousands of tons of humanitarian aid were blocked for months. Palestinians have been forced into famine conditions. Hadeel and her family are being starved by the occupying forces. Some planes have made it through to drop boxes of aid, but in doing so they caused a lot of panic and damages. Hadeel’s brother was injured while trying to secure aid due to the desperate crowds of people trying to reach the limited supplies. The planes drop down the huge parcels and damage people’s belongings and tents. In the end, they got nothing for their efforts, but were lucky to get medical treatment for Hadeel’s brother’s leg injury.

Unfortunately, the safety and wellbeing of Hadeel and her family comes at a high cost. Estimates to leave Gaza once the borders open are around $15,000 USD per person. Food to sustain Hadeel’s family is extremely expensive, with a sack of flour ranging from $150 USD in the south to $1000 USD in the north as of 2024.
Now in 2025, the cost has soared up to at least $500 USD per sack.
