A Chance for Grandpa Barry to Explore Once More!

I am here with a heartfelt request to help grant a wish for a man who has been a beacon of light, wisdom, and adventure in my life—my grandpa Barry. For many years, my gramps has helped shape my love for the outdoors and has instilled a sense of wonder and exploration in me. He has been my rock, a father figure, and an all around inspiration.
From our countless camping trips under starlit skies to his enthralling stories of global adventures, Gramps has always been a central figure in my life. His love for nature and the world around him has shaped my own dreams and goals. His wisdom, gained through a lifetime of hard work and exploration, has been a treasure trove of guidance and encouragement.
Unfortunately, as the years have passed, my grandpa’s once-vibrant spirit has been confined by mobility challenges. Watching him struggle to get around has been heartbreaking. His mental health has declined as his freedom has been limited, and it pains me to see the toll it has taken on him.
Despite his own struggles, he has always been encouraging and does his best to not let his mobility struggles inhibit our family’s adventures. Whenever my mom and I go on hikes he waits patiently in the car, eager to hear about our adventures upon our return. When we show him photos of our walks he always says how he wishes he could join.
For as long as I can remember whenever we would go to the mountains my gramps would talk about how he longed to dip his feet into the cool mountain streams and we have worked tirelessly to find accessible spots, but even the most accessible locations have become increasingly out of reach for him.
Now, I have a chance to help restore some of that freedom. Recently, Grandpa discovered the Big Rig 4WD from Not A Wheelchair—an all-terrain vehicle that offers a real opportunity for him to reconnect with the outdoors, join us on walks, and once again experience the beauty of nature. This isn’t just a mobility aid; it’s a gateway to regaining a piece of his independence and joy.
We are seeking to raise $13,000 to cover the cost of the Big Rig 4WD and its shipping. This investment is not just about purchasing a vehicle; it’s about honoring my Grandpa Barry’s lifelong contributions to our lives and ensuring that his remaining years are filled with dignity, respect, and the freedom he deserves.
As we enter the later stages of our lives, it’s easy for one’s personal desires and mental health to be overlooked. But I believe that we should use this time to show our gratitude for all that our loved ones have done for us. They deserve to feel valued and to experience joy, even when they require assistance.
Please consider contributing to this page. Your support will make a profound impact on Grandpa’s quality of life and will mean more to him and to our family than words can express.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Berkeley
