Hi, my name is Zack John, and I’m opening this on behalf of my grandmother—affectionately known as Grammy, Sandy.
She’s an 82-year-old widow, a retired school teacher, and a former local business owner who has always worked hard and given back to her community. Now, she’s struggling with serious mental and physical health decline, and she needs our help.

What Happened
In March 2025, Grammy suffered a furnace fire in the home that my Papa built for them 43 years ago. Thankfully, we caught it in time—the house is still standing, and she’s safe.
But the aftermath has been a nightmare.
---
❌ Insurance Abandonment
After weeks of back-and-forth, her insurance company has refused to cover any of the damage or the extensive cleanup costs—despite initial assurances that everything would be taken care of, including hotel stays and storage.
So far:
A new furnace had to be installed at a cost of $7,000.
A deep cleaning company has spent two months restoring her smoke-damaged home. We’re still awaiting the full bill, but it won’t be small.
The dry cleaning bill alone came to $16,000.
Storage fees are now over $1,000.

A Series of Injustices
Grammy lost Papa, her husband of 62 years, just 3 years ago.
Since then, it’s been one hardship after another:
The VA denied her survivor’s benefits and wouldn’t assist with Papa’s burial costs.
Her previous insurance dropped her because the policy was in Papa’s name. She was told to reapply as a “new customer.”
Several credit cards were canceled—some with the reasoning that “women weren’t allowed to hold their own credit cards when the accounts were opened.”
She now lives entirely on Social Security.

Why We’re Asking for Help
Grammy has always been strong, but this series of financial and emotional blows has left her overwhelmed. She’s trying to recover—not just from the fire, but from years of systemic failures and heartbreak.
We’re doing everything we can to support her, but we can’t do it alone.
Please, if you’re able, help Grammy get back on her feet.
Every donation goes directly toward:
Furnace replacement
Cleaning and restoration
Storage fees
Legal and insurance assistance

With love,
Zack
