Help Gram Cordelia: Fighting to Keep Their Home

Asking for help has never been my way, but this isn't about me. It's for a woman whose strength and sacrifice knows no bounds — my stepmother, and my second mom whom I love dearly, Cordelia "Cookie."

For years, Cookie has been the guardian of eight grandchildren, providing love and stability as my sister struggled and sadly succumbed to addiction in January 2021, followed by the loss of another son not even a month later. As these heartbreaks unfolded, my father courageously battled cancer, a fight that bravely ended on November 16, 2023. My father’s dedication and hard work ensured they were always provided for.

Now, Cookie faces the overwhelming responsibility of sustaining the family alone, both as a caregiver and financially. With a car loan of $4,200 still left and a remaining mortgage of $100,000, the idea of losing the family home is inconceivable. This home is more than a structure; it's a sanctuary for five grandchildren, ranging from 16 to 3 years old, who've already faced immense loss. This is their stability, their home, where family, friends, and support are close by.

Their small town's support has been incredible, with friends and counselors standing with Cookie and the kids. Yet, the financial hurdle looms large, and at 65, the thought of rebuilding from scratch amidst grief is a burden too heavy for her to bear.

We've set a goal of $22,200 to clear the car debt and secure a year's worth of mortgage payments, ensuring the children have the stable, loving home they need to heal and grow.
