Help Our Family Rebuild – We’re Going Home to Australia

After 30 years of living in the USA, the past 15 years in Los Angeles, we’re making the hardest decision of our lives:

We’re leaving everything behind and returning home to Australia.

We are a family of five — myself, my wife Karen, and our three incredible teenagers. Our eldest is in college in Australia and is 100% self-sufficient. I have not and cannot send her any financial support. Our son will graduate from high school in 2 weeks, and our daughter is finishing Year 10 at the end of May.

The past two years have pushed us beyond the brink. Despite relentless effort, we haven’t had steady or regular work or income. I have hit absolute rock bottom.

We’ve exhausted unemployment. Our food stamps ran out. We’ve relied on a few generous friends and a family member to get through some weeks, at times with no money to buy food.

But we’re still standing. We haven’t given up. We’re doing everything we can — and now, we’re asking for help.

Why We’re Asking for Help

We’re moving back to Sydney in June to rebuild from zero. We probably need to leave by the end of June 2025.

We’re not just relocating — we’re restarting. And we’re surrendering to this new chapter with faith and intention. But we need help covering:

Who We Are

I’m Graham Steele, a documentary director, creative strategist, and spiritual storyteller. Since 1987, I’ve worked in global television — producing for BBC, Discovery, Reuters, Adobe, and more. It’s the only job I’ve ever had.

But I haven’t just relied on the past. I’ve applied for jobs every day — even in hospitality, even where I’ve got no qualifications — my resume is entirely in TV since 1987.

Still, I keep going. I’ve pivoted. I have not stopped applying for work across many industries. I’m learning new skills in content creation. I’m building a digital business through YouTube and social media. I’m publishing books, creating courses, and helping others rediscover purpose and creativity. I’m not on the sofa, eating pizza, watching Netflix. I’m doing the work. I show up every single day.
