Hello, I'm Graceina Samosir.

Nearly seven years ago I came to Canada with a yearning to study and make art. Originally from Indonesia, I have been living away from my family, doing my best to make the most out of the sacrifices my parents had made. On October 9, 2023 at 12:20 a.m. EST I received a call that my dad, who was recovering from his second cardiac arrest, passed away from his third and final heart attack. He was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital, without our presence or immediate knowledge. At this moment, I do not have enough funds to return to Indonesia, spend time with my mother and brother to mourn, and help out with the funeral services. My brother, who just finished his undergraduate degree, is in the Netherlands and is also trying to book a flight home. The Indonesian Embassy in Canada was not able to provide me with financial assistance to go back home and so I'm co-creating this campaign with humility and hope that you will be able to extend kindness to me. I have not been able to see my dad since the end of 2016 and I desperately want to see him for the last time and comfort my grieving mom and brother.

The funds you provide will:

Help me purchase a last minute round-trip ticket so that I can attend to my family.
Help pay funeral, burial, and ceremonial fees.
Assist me in making arrangements for my mother's provision, e.g. food, gas, house utilities, light repairs/maintenance, legal work, urgent living necessities.
Aid in sustaining my immediate family during our two week bereavement period/my work leave (October 10 - October 24).
