Hi, my name is Jay. I'm one of Gordon Lore's step-sons. He came into our lives way back in 1966 when I was only ten years old and he was still working at NICAP with my mom. Gordon is now 85 years old and he can no longer take care of himself. He is currently in an "assisted living" facility. In fact, he is currently bedridden but we hope, with enough physical therapy, he will be able to get out of bed into a wheelchair by himself. We need your help paying the rent at the facility. He has had to give up his apartment since he can't afford to keep it. He is still in good spirits and hoping to continue writing when he can get out of bed.
His only expense at this time is the rent for the assisted living facility and a credit card debt. His only income is Social Security and that only covers about half of the rent. He needs another $1,500 per month. If this fundraiser meets the goal that should take care of the rent for the next two years and hopefully provide some money towards some much needed physical therapy. Regarding physical therapy ("PT"); he has been able to qualify for some via Medicare but it was only a "drop in the bucket" compared to what is needed. Regarding the assisted living facility; it is a small, relatively inexpensive place (for the Los Angeles area) but still nice and clean.
There is a California program called "Assisted living waiver" that would allow him to be is a large facility at no cost but I've been told that the waiting list is currently 3-5 years. If by some miracle, he gets into that program before the money from this fund is exhausted or he does not survive that long, my plan is to return all remaining money to those of you that contributed.
Gordon is a kind and giving person and this support means the world to him. We will forever be in your debt.
