Hi, my name is Owen Roubeni. I am a student living in Shanghai and an active member of the Jewish community here.
Living in a place far from home is not always easy. Many students and expats in Shanghai want to keep mitzvot and stay connected to their traditions, but not everyone has access to the basic items that help make that possible.
One of those essentials is the mezuzah. It is more than just a scroll on the doorpost. It is a symbol of Jewish identity, protection, and presence. For many young Jews living abroad, having a mezuzah on their door gives them a sense of belonging and connection.
The Shanghai Jewish Center is helping lead an initiative to provide mezuzahs to those who need them, but we need your support. We are aiming to raise $1,750 to cover the cost of kosher mezuzahs for students and Jewish expats throughout the city.
If you are part of the Jewish community from my hometown Great Neck or anywhere in the world, this is a powerful opportunity to take part in a mitzvah that will impact lives across the globe.
Every dollar helps. Thank you for helping us strengthen Jewish life in Shanghai, one mezuzah at a time.
