Help give Adili a home.

Beschermde donatie

Hi, I hope that you are all well. My name is Tel and in the photo above is my beautiful step-Granddaughter

Adili who is 11years old. I am her step-grandad, Special guardian and her sole full time carer.

She lives with me and there are only the two of us.

I’m raising funds in the hope that I can provide for her future. I am 66 years old and look after and care for her 24 hrs a day and I’ll continue to do so for as long as I can. But I need your help...

Adili was born in March 2010 and at barely 3 months old she was taken from her biological mother by Children’s Services to be looked after and cared for full time by her nan and I.

Some months later during a developmental growth and well being appointment, the doctor discovered

that something was not right with her, as she was not behaving for a child of her age.

A referral was made to a specialist and subsequently after many weeks of tests and observations, we were

informed that Adili had been born with debilitating conditions. We were devastated.

She was diagnosed with severe Global Developmental Delay, Alcohol Foetal Syndrome, Speech and Language problems and will have major learning and behavioural difficulties as she grows up and will be affected for the rest of her life.

At Pre-school, due to her lack of speech and communication she would invariably be playing by herself unable to communicate with her peers.

Assessments were made and an Educational Health and Care Plan was awarded. It was decided that upon reaching Primary school age, she would attend the local mainstream school.

It was at this time in early 2015, Adili’s nan and I separated. She was in no position to look after and care for Adili, and I didn’t want her to go into care, so I decided to bring her up on my own and still do to the present day.

As Adili progressed through Primary school her learning disabilities began to show along with other certain behaviours. Her reading, writing and maths were poor, she became frustrated and confused and at times aggressive towards her class peers.

In year 4 she began to have Absence seizures, eye flickering and collapsing for no apparent reason and on one occasion she collapsed at school cutting her eyebrow open which required stitches.

An initial referral was made to the Children’s Learning and Disability team who assessed her for Autism. They revealed that while Adili displayed certain autistic traits she was not fully autistic but on the Autistic spectrum.Adili needed more support with her education and a place was found at a Special needs school.

To investigate the eye fluttering and collapsing, her doctor referred her to a specialist Paediatrician. In July 2019, Adili underwent an ECG (Sensors attached to her head to read her brainwaves) and was subsequently diagnosed with Epilepsy and now takes prescribed medication twice a day to try and stop her seizures.

Despite her disabilities and special needs, Adili is a caring and loving little girl. She is funny and has an awesome sense of humour. Through several charities she enjoys surfing, paddle boarding and forest school where she has made lots of new friends and in the summer, loves camping in the garden.

Adili has to be constantly supervised and cannot be out on her own. She needs help with dressing and personal care day and night. She has very little understanding of the world, no social or danger awareness and with her lack of speech, is extremely vulnerable. Everyday there are challenges for her and myself , she finds it difficult to understand even the most simple and logical of things and becomes frustrated and upset.

She will need care and support for the rest of her life. Tasks and chores which many of us manage routinely like budgeting finance, paying bills, learning to drive or having a job etc, Adili will not be able to do.

If anything should happen to me, Adili would have nothing, her world would be crushed, she would be alone. Her two younger half sisters are in foster care and she has no contact with them presently. Although her nan calls her and comes to see her when her work allows, she is unable to care for her full time.

My heartfelt wish is to see Adili safe, cared for and protected. It hurts me to think how vulnerable she is, how she could be taken advantage of.

Adili is my world and this is the reason why I’ve decided to become her fundraiser, to raise funds towards providing her with a home, four walls and a roof, solely in her name under the management of trustees for life.

But I need your help...

Thank you
