We’re raising funds to purchase an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device for our amazing 5-year-old son, Theo.
Theo is autistic and has global developmental delay. He has been non-verbal for most of his life, but over the past year, he has made incredible progress. Through a combination of sign language, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) cards, and a few spoken words and phrases—often scripts from his favourite TV shows—Theo is beginning to find ways to communicate with us. Each small step has been a huge milestone.
That said, Theo’s speech remains very limited, and he often becomes frustrated when he can't express himself or communicate his needs. He is also a gestalt language processor, which means he tends to speak in pre-learned phrases rather than constructing original sentences. This makes it even more important for him to have access to tools that support his individual communication style.
We now believe Theo is ready to take the next step with an AAC device. He has shown strong understanding and motivation through his use of sound buttons, recorded messages, and interactive educational toys. With this in mind, we would like to get Theo a basic iPad equipped with the Proloquo2Go app—a highly regarded AAC tool designed to help non-speaking or minimally speaking individuals communicate more easily.
AAC devices can be life-changing. They allow children like Theo to express their wants, needs, emotions, and ideas—often for the first time in a meaningful way. The ability to communicate more effectively can reduce frustration, increase independence, and support learning across all areas of development.
To make this happen, we’re hoping to raise £700, which will cover the cost of:
A basic-level iPad
The Proloquo2Go app
A durable, protective case designed for children
Any necessary accessories to support everyday use
We would be so grateful for any help you can offer—whether it’s through a donation, sharing this page, or simply offering words of support. Every contribution brings us closer to giving Theo the tools he needs to continue building his voice and confidence.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Theo’s story
