Help Giovanna, A Community Advocate in Need

On the morning of Tuesday August 5th, Giovanna was driving to work when a Leeds officer pulled her over for going over the speed limit. What should have been a regular traffic stop, turned into something much worse as an ICE agent arrived closely thereafter. In less than an hour she was processed and taken into ICE custody. She was taken to Homewood where she was held for a few hours and then relocated to Pickens County. The situation is dire as ICE has been moving fast and plan to move her to Louisiana by the end of the week.

Giovanna is a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and community member. She, like many immigrants was brought to the USA as a child. Her family, like many, only sought to give their child a better life and to obtain better opportunities that were not accessible in their home country. Despite many barriers and challenges, Giovanna has always been determined to find her way in a country that was not always receptive to her. Nevertheless, she has always been kind, compassionate, loving, respectful, and reliable to everyone she encountered. Her uplifting spirit and smile always lights up any room she walks into.

Not only is she an impeccable woman with a strong moral character, but she is also a distinguished professional. Having earned a bachelor's and master's degree in social work at Jacksonville State University, she takes pride in advocating for her community, and those without a voice.

Now, its our turn to use our voices to fight for her and defend her.

En la mañana del martes 5 de agosto, Giovanna iba manejando hacia su trabajo cuando un oficial de Leeds la detuvo por exceder el límite de velocidad por solo una milla. Sin embargo, siempre ha sido amable, compasiva, amorosa, respetuosa y confiable con todos los que ha conocido. Su espíritu alegre y su sonrisa iluminan cualquier lugar al que entra.

No solo es una mujer impecable con una sólida integridad moral, sino que también es una profesional distinguida. Habiendo obtenido su licenciatura y maestría en trabajo social en la Universidad Estatal de Jacksonville, se enorgullece de abogar por su comunidad y por aquellos que no tienen voz.
