I’m starting this GoFundMe for a woman who helped shape me into the person I am today — someone whose strength, kindness, and guidance changed my life in ways I’ll never be able to fully express.

Gina is so much more than a former boss. She’s a mentor, a role model, and above all, a friend. I met her when I was just starting out in the working world, and she believed in me, supported me, and taught me how to carry myself with confidence and compassion. Over the years, Gina has worked in countless restaurants and retail stores, and anyone who has ever worked with her will tell you: she led with heart. She lifted people up and made them feel like they mattered. That’s just who she is.

Recently, Gina made the incredibly brave decision to leave an abusive marriage. In order to protect herself and her children from further harm, she had to bring in Child Protective Services (CPS) and the Department of Human Services (DHS). Her ex-husband, who was abusive toward both her and their children, is now fighting for full custody — putting Gina in a terrifying and unjust legal battle.

Now, she’s had to uproot her life and start over in a new city with no outside help. She’s working two jobs just to make ends meet and has taken out a loan to try to cover legal fees. She’s been quoted $6,000 just to retain a lawyer, and the total cost could reach $13,000 or more — an overwhelming amount for someone doing everything in her power to protect her kids and build a safer future.
