Help get stable housing for the Brinson family

To all caring individuals…

We’re starting a GoFundMe campaign for the family of Joy and Kenny Brinson, parents of three children, ages 13, 9, and 3. The family moved to Colorado from Ohio 4 years ago, with plans to stay with friends. Unfortunately, that housing opportunity fell through, and they have been without a stable home ever since. Over that time, they have lived in a van, a truck, and a tent in a park, as well as resorted to occasional and intermittent short-term hotel stays.

Joy and Kenny both work but struggle with finding jobs that pay livable wages for a family of 5 in the high-cost Denver area. Meanwhile, the challenge of securing affordable and reliable daycare for their youngest, especially throughout the pandemic era, creates additional barriers to finding and maintaining work with adequate income.

The Brinsons have been working diligently with local faith-based and community aid agencies such as the Broomfield Fellowship In Serving Humanity (FISH) for help with rental assistance, job referrals, etc. But the tragic reality is that these types of assistance are limited in funding and duration; they’re inadequate to meet all the needs of those experiencing housing insecurity.

Currently, Kenny and Joy are working fervently to buy a gently-used camper (Heartland Sundance or equivalent) to support their family living needs. Owning a camper outright would give them desperately-desired independence from expensive, ongoing rent payments in Broomfield, where the schools are “wonderful for our children and… just an amazing place.”

Joy and Kenny have about half of the necessary money (~$25-30k) themselves and a commitment from Broomfield FISH for about $4500 more. All of this leaves them short about $15k, which is our fundraising target

Working together to help this loving and hard-working family secure a more stable and permanent housing option would be a huge victory. They have hotel vouchers through FISH until the end of March, so the goal is to raise these funds quickly before that expires.
