Meet Rory:
Rory is a dedicated and loyal individual who will be grateful for any and all help! Rory has been deaf since birth, though his deafness was not addressed until he was nine years old. After his parents were told that Rory was deaf, he started learning sign language. He had a difficult time catching up to the other students, but this did not keep him down! With determination, he learned the language and has been able to live and provide for himself and others. Rory has been a faithful employee for over 15 years at Chester's Hamburgers. Come rain or shine, Rory has been there!
The Story:
Rory and his girlfriend, who is also deaf, recently fell on hard times and became homeless. For over a month, they had been living out of his car with their two service dogs. This car, which is currently out of service since it requires quite a bit of money to get back on the road, was sold to him by a well known used car dealer for way more than what it is worth! Being homeless, however, did not deter Rory from faithfully keeping his work schedule. This speaks volumes of his integrity and commitment to his responsibilities. We learned of their living situation after we found them broken down and tried to get their car running again, unfortunately, it needed more work than could possibly be done with battery cables and a wrench. We offered to drive them to their home and to come back in the morning to continue the work. This is when they shared that they did not have a home.... We immediately placed them in a hotel for a week while assisting them in renting an apartment. Their living situation has been changing as we guide and help Rory get back on his own two feet. Rory, his girlfriend, as well as his dear friend of over 30 years, who is also deaf, are now sharing an apartment, Yay! The three of them are each other's family. Rory is incredibly grateful to have a roof over his head and now hopes to get his transportation issue resolved. He currently rides the bus to and from work.
