✨ I'm reaching out on behalf of my cherished friend, Tina, who is living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) ✨
Originally from Denmark, Tina and her husband (Ryan, from South Africa) were living in Melbourne in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe. Melbourne’s experience stood out as having the most stringent and prolonged lockdowns worldwide, having a significant affect on many individuals’ mental health and wellbeing.
During this time, Tina and Ryan’s daughter, Alba, was four years old. The lockdowns were incredibly difficult for the family, unaware that Tina’s MS diagnosis would come as a harsh and unexpected blow, overshadowing their experience of lockdown isolation from friends and family.
During lockdowns, Tina began experiencing debilitating migraines. The frequency of these set Tina off on a series of specialist appointments, MRI scans, and consultations with neurologists. The outcome was the discovery of lesions on her brain and a diagnosis of MS. Tina and Ryan were unfamiliar with the disease and embarked on a journey of research to understand its implications, facing the harsh and terrifying reality that MS could potentially shorten her lifespan.
Despite her degree in pedagogy, Tina could no longer work due to her worsening symptoms. This prompted them reevaluate their values and reassess their lifestyle, resulting in the decision in 2021 to leave Melbourne and relocate to Perth, seeking a more relaxed lifestyle and to be closer to friends who lived on the west coast.
Despite the move to Perth, Tina’s symptoms have continued to worsen. Additionally, the escalating cost of living in Perth along with the crippling housing crisis have gone toward the family making the decision to move back to Denmark so Tina can be closer to her family as her symptoms inevitably progress.
This transition brings with it the challenge of relocating Tina’s beloved French Bulldog, Milo.
Milo, who is almost four years old, has been Tina’s constant companion and a great source of comfort, especially since she had to stop working.
The cost of relocating Milo to Copenhagen is incredibly high, however, leaving without him was never going to be an option for Tina. The impact on her mental health and wellbeing of being able to bring Milo with her to Denmark is unquantifiable. This GoFundMe campaign is set up to help fund Milo's relocation so that Tina can have her beloved companion with her as she moves back to Copenhagen.
The funds raised will go directly towards covering the costs of Milo’s travel. Quotes have been obtained from 11 international transit companies and have ranged from $5,500 to $10,500. The costs are generally made up of approximately $4,000 for Milo’s airline ticket and the remaining coming including any necessary vaccinations, transportation fees, and quarantine procedures.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in Tina’s life, providing her with the emotional support she needs during this challenging transition.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity
