My name is Zack, and Chris is my cousin.

In 2025, Chris moved to Cambodia to pursue his dream of teaching English. He went there with nothing but good intentions — excited to build a future and make a difference.

On February 17th, a friend asked him to drop off a few packages at the post office. Wanting to help — because that’s who he is — Chris agreed.

On February 27th, he was arrested and charged with drug trafficking.

We are devastated.

We truly believe Chris had no knowledge of what was inside those packages. Anyone who knows him knows this accusation does not reflect the kind, responsible, and caring person he is. If he had known — even suspected — he would never have agreed.

Now he is facing a legal battle in a foreign country.

We are working with lawyers in Cambodia, but the costs are overwhelming. The legal retainer alone is $5,000, and ongoing fees continue to add up. On top of that, Chris must pay for basic necessities while incarcerated — including food, toiletries, clothing, and even contributions toward his cell. The prison system there requires inmates to cover many of their daily living costs.

Chris is currently being held at Prey Sar Prison in Cambodia while he awaits his appeal.

The reality is that the prison system there is very different from what we know in Canada. Inmates are responsible for paying for basic necessities — including food, hygiene products, clothing, and even space in their cell. Without outside support, daily life becomes even more difficult.

That’s why your help matters so much.
