Help Aaliyah Get a Handicap-Accessible Van! Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers, As most of you know my daughter, Aaliyah, is a brave shaken baby survivor. Even though life has presented her with challenges, her spirit shines brighter than ever. She is the true definition of unspeakable Joy. Due to her traumatic brain injury she is wheelchair-bound and requires specialized transportation to attend medical appointments, therapy sessions, and simply enjoy everyday outings with her family. Why We Need Your Help As a single parent raising Aaliyah, my world revolves around ensuring she has everything she needs to thrive. Being a shaken baby survivor and wheelchair-bound, she requires constant care, therapy, and medical appointments—all of which I manage while working full-time as a special education teacher. I chose this career because I have a deep passion for helping children with disabilities, but as rewarding as my job is, it doesn’t provide the financial flexibility to afford a new, handicap-accessible vehicle. With the rising costs of living, medical expenses, and Aaliyah’s specialized care needs, saving for a new van has been nearly impossible. To make matters worse, our current vehicle is on its last leg. Every trip to the specialist she sees, or even a simple outing is a major challenge, requiring me to lift and transfer her manually, which is becoming increasingly difficult as she grows. I fear that soon, we won’t have any means of transportation at all. This is why we desperately need help. I don’t usually like asking for help but this is a major thing we need for Aaliyah. A handicap-accessible van would give Aaliyah the freedom and safety she deserves and ease the daily struggles we face. As a mother, my biggest wish is to give her the best quality of life possible, and with your support, we can make that happen.
