Gerardo Valez is more than just a security guard at my workplace—he’s a friend, a source of comfort, and someone who always shows up with kindness and a giving heart. No matter what kind of day he’s having, Gerardo greets everyone with a warm smile and checks in when you need it most. He has lived through unthinkable and deeply tragic experiences, but instead of letting them harden him, they’ve shaped him into one of the strongest, most compassionate, and hardworking people I know. His strength is quiet, his wisdom is real, and his heart is truly special.

Right now, Gerardo is facing an incredibly difficult time. He is in the middle of a divorce that was not his choice, and even though the home is in his name, he made the selfless decision to walk away. At the moment, he’s sleeping on a couch, doing everything he can to keep moving forward. He’s working two full-time jobs and doing his best to rebuild—but he needs a little help right now. Gerardo has found a new place to live, but he is short for the down payment. If he can’t come up with it soon, he will have nowhere to go. What makes this even harder is that Gerardo doesn’t have family to lean on, as he was adopted. He’s been carrying so much on his own—and still continues to give to others every single day.
