Help George Adams Get the Accessible Van He Needs
George has spent decades advocating for people with disabilities across Oregon. Whether serving on statewide healthcare commissions, speaking up in public meetings, or mentoring individuals navigating complex systems, George is a tireless champion for equity, accessibility, and dignity. His voice has shaped policy. His perseverance has opened doors for countless Oregonians.
But George’s impact isn’t limited to conference rooms or policy forums. He’s also a bright, encouraging presence online—especially to his North Valley High School Class of 1983 classmates. On Facebook, George is the one cheering people on, offering heartfelt support, celebrating milestones, and lifting others up with his humor, hope, and positivity. Many of his classmates will tell you: George makes people feel seen.
Now George needs our support.
Although George has a current Oregon Driver’s License for hand controlled vehicles, he does not own a vehicle. To attend commission meetings, community events, and medical appointments, he relies entirely on public transit and paratransit services. Recent funding cuts have made those services unreliable and, at times, unavailable—putting his independence, his health, and his ability to serve the community at risk.
An accessible van—with a dependable lift and the adaptive features he needs—would transform George’s daily life. It would give him reliable transportation, restore his independence, and ensure he can continue showing up for the disability community he loves and serves. But it would also give George something profoundly personal: the ability to live more fully.
With an accessible van, George could visit his ailing mother in Grants Pass whenever she needs him. He could travel without worry, stay connected with loved ones, and maintain the relationships that sustain him. And on the good days, he could enjoy something he truly loves—going fishing and experiencing the peace and freedom of being outdoors.
Accessible vans are expensive, often costing tens of thousands of dollars even before customization. This GoFundMe will help cover the cost of a used, safe, fully accessible vehicle so George can:
• Continue serving on healthcare commissions and advisory boards
• Travel to medical appointments and essential errands
• Stay active in advocacy across Oregon
• Visit his mother in Grants Pass
• Go fishing and enjoy the outdoors
• Stay engaged with his North Valley High School classmates and online community
