Help Geoff to start his new life after cancer.

Hello, my name is Cosmos. I'd like to talk about my dad Geoff's Battle with Cancer. He used to take me camping, to the dog park, to the office, and pretty much everywhere he went.  But he's been in the hospital since October (over five months so far! That's a lot of sad sleeps... ).

This is the second time he's had to leave me because of that nasty cancer. The first time was in 2014, and that was bad enough, with several chemo treatments and a course of radiation. Then in 2019 he began having strange pains and other symptoms. An MRI showed a large mass in his pelvis. The oncologist said it was probably just scar tissue from the first surgery, but a biopsy showed it was made up of the same cancer cells from the first bout.

Even worse, the next MRI showed the tumor had grown about 28x in a few months, and had entered his bladder. This aggressive cancer did not respond to any of the chemotherapies that we tried. The second course of radiation did seem to slow it down - but not enough. The cancer had spread to the left side of the pelvis as well, resulting in nerve damage to the one 'good' leg. My dad will never walk again.

This time the treatment was a fairly radical surgery - called a "hemipelvectomy" - removing half the pelvis and entire right leg. Geoff did not do well following surgery, requiring 5 emergency surgeries and 2 resuscitations (the stubborn SOB refused to die). It took 6 weeks in ICU before he was stable enough to begin rehab.  Despite all this, he maintained a positive attitude that amazed everyone.

While Geoff is working through his rehabilitation, my grandma Diane and uncle Doug are taking care of me, and overseeing the renovations that will allow him to come home, and to be able to live there - hopefully one day independently.

All of this means that we require extensive modifications to the house, as well as a lot of new equipment, such as wheelchairs, hoists, a vehicle capable of transporting power wheelchairs, and so on.  We are humbly reaching out for support to help cover these expenses. We have already accrued over $30,000 in debt, and there is much left to deal with.

We cannot thank you enough (although we will try) for any support you decide to contribute.

Thank you!
