Support My Medical Outreach Internship in Peru – Summer 2025
Hi everyone! My name is Genesis Acevedo, and I am a first-generation college student at New York University, pursuing my dream of becoming a neurosurgeon. Growing up, I had to open my own doors and navigate a path that no one in my family had traveled before. I’ve worked hard to break through barriers, and now I’ve been accepted to join VAW Global Health Alliances on a medical outreach trip to Cusco, Peru, in Summer 2025!
This opportunity means the world to me. I’ll be working alongside healthcare professionals to provide essential medical care to underserved communities, helping with patient intake, vitals, and distributing medications. This mission isn’t just about gaining experience for my future career—it’s about giving back to those who need it most and using my skills to make a difference.
What is VAW Global Health Alliances?
VAW (Volunteers Around the World) is an organization dedicated to providing medical care and education to underserved populations around the globe. Each year, VAW partners with student volunteers and healthcare professionals to deliver crucial healthcare services in countries that need them the most. From diagnosing conditions to providing life-saving medications, the goal is not only to offer immediate relief but also to build long-term health education and sustainability within these communities.
Why We Do What We Do
In many of the places VAW works, access to basic healthcare services is extremely limited. The clinics that we set up during outreach trips often serve as one of the few opportunities for people to receive medical attention and essential medications. Our mission is to bring care to those who would otherwise go without it, making a tangible, lasting impact on the health and well-being of these communities.
Being the first in my family to achieve this is both an honor and a challenge. I’ve always had to push through obstacles, and now I’m asking for your support to help me continue on this journey. I’m raising funds to cover the cost of travel, accommodations, and, most importantly, the medications we will provide to the communities in Cusco.
Your donation, no matter the amount, will directly impact the lives of those we serve. Thank you for believing in me and helping me open doors not only for myself but for those in need.
