Support Omar's family during war in Gaza

This is Amy Yoder McGloughlin from the United States of America, and I can't believe I have to do a fundraiser to save people from war, famine and illness because of our government.

I know Omar through a mutual friend Mona who lives in the West Bank, and we have been friends since 2013.

The funds raised will help Omar AlMashharawi and his Family to get through war time.

Here is his story,

My nephews and nieces are just thinking of death and that they want to die in one piece and be identified.

I am Omar AlMashharawi. I was living with my family in our house, which we built with savings we collected during work for over thirty years.

I lived a peaceful life with my 13 adults and 10 kids of my family in the city of Gaza City, close to Al-Sheifa Hospital. We were content with our life. Both my brothers and I have a university degree in engineering, and my other siblings in teaching and journalism.

But on a dark night, we were forced to leave our home and relocate to another city (Rafah) because the Israeli army declared our residential area as a military operating area for the Israeli army, or else we would have been killed. Because of this military operation, our house was bombarded after we had left it.

We currently reside in substandard tents within a camp housing thousands of internally displaced individuals. The camp is overcrowded, which contributes to the spread of numerous diseases. It should be noted that three of the ten children in my family are under the age of twelve months.

 

Due to the Israeli army's threats to enter Rafah the place we sought refuge at the beginning, we are forced to flee our safety again. Now displaced, we face the impossible choice between death, capture, injury, or paying exorbitant fees to escape across the Egyptian border. To survive, my family needs approximately $100,000 to cover the $5,000 exit fee per adult and $3,000 per child.

Although it breaks my heart to leave, Gaza has become unlivable. Death and bloodshed surround us. We yearn to finally experience life free of fear.
