Based on the response I’ve received from my social media post, I’ve decided to start a GoFundMe account for Gary. Here is his story:

This is Gary, whom I met last week in Guatemala. Gary lived in Texas with his wife and kids for over 25 years. He owns a business and a home, and has always worked hard to provide for his family and contribute to his community. Five months ago, he was deported in ICE raids despite having zero criminal record whatsoever. He has lived in the US since the age of 7, and because of his deportation, 13 American citizens lost their jobs. Gary has spent the majority of his life in the US and has contributed to our society and economy in only positive ways.

Now, Gary is facing the challenge of being separated from his loved ones. He is currently trying to get to Canada and reunite with his family—his wife is half Native American and half Canadian, and his children are waiting for him. The journey is difficult, and he needs support to cover the costs of travel, legal fees, and resettlement. If you feel moved to help Gary out, please donate whatever you can.
