Help Gary move to Jamie’s Place
Donation protected
We are raising money for our Dad, Gary Marchbank to join Eunice, his wife of 63 years at Jamie’s Place Adult Family Home in Winthrop. Our family is contributing what we are able, but there is a significant gap between what we can afford and the actual cost.
You might know Gary because he was your schoolteacher in the 1970’s, or when he worked for Outward Bound during his early years in the valley or from his time spent as a timber faller, electrician, mountaineer, marathon runner or school board member. Always good for a little visit and a cup of coffee, you might still see him at Tenderfoot or Pardners visiting with whomever stops in or at an LBHS sporting event! As Gary says, in 1968, he “moved to the Methow Valley because of the mountains and stayed because of the community”.
Over the past 55 years, Gary has quietly served this community, often helping people in need without recognition or fanfare. At 85, he is still excited to be involved in meaningful work, serving on the school board.
After Eunice’s stroke a few years ago and subsequent health challenges, our Dad cared for our Mom at home as long as he was able. She now receives wonderful care and support at Jamie’s Place where she has lived for 2 ½ years. Gary recently turned 85 and his health and eyesight and ability to care for himself has significantly declined. Consequently, it is increasingly difficult and isolating for him to live independently. He has been on the waiting list at Jamie’s Place and there is now an opening for him! We are hoping to raise the money needed to help Gary make this transition a realistic possibility.
When I asked him a few weeks ago what his wishes are for his life going forward, he said to be near Eunice, see his family & friends, serve on the school board, have coffee and go to lunch at the senior center in Twisp. It doesn’t seem like too much to ask.
Jamie's Place is asking for a two-year private pay commitment. The cost for Gary is $100k per year. After two years, we can apply for a “Medicaid bed,” which would significantly lower the cost, but is not guaranteed. Even after spending Gary’s modest remaining assets, his social security and funds contributed from our family for his care, there is a gap between that amount and the total cost of care at JP. We are reaching out for your support to bridge this gap of approximately $75k (total for the two years) and ensure Gary receives the care he deserves.
Thank you, dear friends, for making this valley a place worth staying for!
If you love Gary & Eunice and our family or simply understand the heartache of not being able to provide your loved one with the care they deserve, and want to help, we will be forever grateful.
With love & gratitude,
Callie, Carrie & Cassie
