Gary and Lindsay Moken are more than just our best friends—they’re family. They’ve built a life together in Alabama with their three children, working hard to provide for their family. Gary is a veteran living on a limited income, and Lindsay recently found a job, but it requires a two-hour drive each way. Despite the challenges, they’ve always found a way to make things work. Recently, they celebrated their marriage, hoping for a fresh start, but life has thrown them one hardship after another.
Over the past year, Gary and Lindsay have faced a series of overwhelming setbacks. On top of the general rising cost of living, they have also been dealing with ongoing health issues and other unexpected expenses that have made daily life even more difficult. Just after Christmas, during the New Year’s break, while visiting us in Ohio, they received a call that changed everything. Their hot water tank had burst, soaking their home and there was smoke alarms going off. When a family member went to check on their cats, they found, water everywhere. Thankfully, they arrived in time to prevent a total disaster. Gary’s family shut off the water and electricity and tried to clean up as much as they could. When Gary, Lindsay, and their boys returned home, the damage was overwhelming. Floors and walls must be replaced, and they lost appliances and kitchen cabinets. Insurance will help, but the process is slow and uncertain, and they need support now for temporary housing and immediate needs.
Despite all of this, Gary and Lindsay remain hopeful and determined to keep their family together and safe. Funds raised will help Gary and Lindsay replace belongings, cover repairs not fully covered by insurance, and meet urgent needs while they’re displaced. Insurance may reimburse some expenses, but everything must be paid out of pocket first, and nothing is guaranteed. The family is currently staying in a hotel, facing ongoing uncertainty and expenses. Thank you for taking the time to read Gary and Lindsay’s story. Any help you can give means the world to them and their family. Every little bit truly helps.
