Help Gary Heal After Traumatic Car Accident

On October 18, 2024 our father, Gary Glushien was involved in a car accident while driving home from work. Gary dodged a deer and collided with a tree. He survived but sustained traumatic injuries breaking his C2 bone in his neck and fracturing three ribs. Gary is a 77 year old father of three ladies and a grandfather to four granddaughters. This past February he lost his wife of 38 years. One of their favorite things to do was ride around looking at the foliage. Gary spent countless hours by her bedside at home. Due to the unfortunate circumstances with the health conditions that our mom was facing the house has already become mostly handicapped accessible.

We are incredibly thankful that he made it out with as little injuries as he did. He is looking at an extended recovery with the risk of paralyzation from the neck down if he bends lift or twist in the wrong way. Gary’s independence will be taken from him for at least the next 3 to 4 months. He’s never been good about having others take care of him. He’s always taking care of others. When you called for help, he showed up.

After talking to his insurance company we learned that they will only cover 20 days in a rehab facility. They will not cover any continued at home care after he leaves the facility. We are looking for support in off setting the cost of being able to give him the appropriate care that he will need for the next several months. Some of the expected costs will be but not limited to

- PCA care

- Mortgage

-Home maintenance

- Living expenses, example; groceries prescriptions, utilities, hygiene supplies, trash removal

-Travel expenses for appointments

- Snow removal seeing how winter is coming

- Definite increase in the amount of birdseed that will be administered to any birds in the vicinity of his home. Seeing how this is something that he has enjoyed doing we expect him to be doing this a lot more.
